The role of water
In the Sidobre, water infiltrates cracks and joints, accentuating the erosion of the granite base. This breakdown of granite causes the formation of granite arena, sandy mineral residues. All this material is carried further away by rainwater: this is how some boulders end up balanced on others.
The Sidobre massif is sculpted by water: it is made of hollows and bumps, more or less wrinkled. On this multi-faceted base grows equally varied vegetation: oak, chestnut, beech and birch woods, fern and gorse moorland.
The many rivers have also shaped our landscapes by carving out our charming little valleys.
