Granite plays at boules
The Sidobre has undergone a form of erosion known as ‘boules’ erosion. A three-stage process is responsible for the current chaos of perched or precarious rocks, with evocative names (the Trois Fromages, the Roc de l’Oie, etc.). First stage, during the cooling of the granite (Mesozoic era): the rock split into blocks. The second stage, during a humid tropical climate (Tertiary period): weathering of the granite through corrosion working from top to bottom along a network of joints that leave the blocks
of sound rock intact. This led to the formation of the granite boulders. The third stage: the boulders were exposed by erosion. The resulting picturesque piles of rock capture the human imagination.
