The peat bog of Canroute is a wetland classified as a Natura 2000 area. Highland Cattle, little cows looking as though they had loomed up out of the prehistoric past, help to maintain the peat bog from the end of May to the end of September. This particularly sensitive area inhabits an atypical fauna and flora such as the Drossera, a small carnivorous plant.
There are some precautions to be taken before starting this walk:
No dogs allowed
It is also advisable to have a second pair of shoes and socks (the peat bog is often muddy).
You have to cross an electrified fence when the cows are in the meadow.
Don’t miss the 360° view on the Puech Cornet at the top of the picnic area.
Not practicable on mountain bike
