1915. War is an unknown land to which Justin, a poor peasant, is sent at a time when he should be tending to his fields. He must go off to fight, in the name of a law he knows nothing about, against an enemy he has never seen, when all he dreams of is staying on his farm. His encounter with Basile, a Senegalese rifleman, opens his eyes to a war he cannot understand. Together, they rise up against the injustices of an absurd military command, and Justin becomes an unlikely hero.
