Open since 2015, the Orphée Music Institute hosts and develops a variety of musical activities, thereby supporting a
rich local cultural life. It houses several programs within its walls:
- A music school (early music education and training, wind instruments, percussion, piano, guitar, accordion, masterclasses, choirs, and junior orchestras).
- The Grand Orchestre d’Harmonie, formerly known as OHBLER (Orchestre d’Harmonie Barral Lacrouzette Eveil
Roquecourbain).
- A saxophone ensemble: Les Saxos d’Orphée.
- The historical and technical museum dedicated to concert band music: permanent and thematic exhibitions, multimedia content, and wood carvings.
- Educational activities for ages 7 to 77 to explore different aspects of music through fun, hands-on, and multimedia experiences.
- A research and documentation center: preservation of sheet music from the musical heritage (sheet music library), documentary collection
(library), and publication of articles in specialized journals.
- The Gérard Laval Auditorium, a 200-square-meter performance space, hosts rehearsals, recordings, and artistic events. Don’t miss the “Lyrae” fresco adorning its ceiling—inspired by the myth of Orpheus—and the statue of Jacques Bourges.
